Jilin Medical University was founded in 1952. Originally known as the Jilin Military Medical College of the Fourth Military Medical University of the People’s Liberation Army, it was transferred to the administration of Jilin Province in 2004 and renamed Jilin Medical University. It is a state-funded institution of higher education. The university is currently the only independently established undergraduate institution of Western medicine in Jilin Province and is authorised to recruit students nationwide.
Jilin Medical University is situated in Jilin City, Jilin Province, a nationally renowned and charming city known as the “Capital of Rime Ice”. With its fresh air, picturesque scenery, convenient transport links and rich cultural heritage, it is an ideal place for students to pursue their studies.The university occupies a site area of 636,400 square metres, with a total building area of 285,100 square metres. Its total fixed assets amount to 1.177 billion yuan, whilst the value of teaching and research equipment stands at 527 million yuan. The library houses a collection of 1.11 million printed volumes and provides access to 30 Chinese and foreign language databases.

The university currently has 9,802 full-time students and offers 23 undergraduate programmes and specialisations:Clinical Medicine, Clinical Medicine (Targeted Training), Preventive Medicine, Medical Imaging, Pharmacy, Nursing, Medical Laboratory Technology, Pharmaceutical Formulation, Rehabilitation Therapy, Health Inspection and Quarantine, Applied Psychology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Food Quality and Safety, Biopharmaceuticals, Biopharmaceuticals (Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education), Medical Information Engineering, Public Affairs Management, Health Services and Management, Medical Imaging Technology, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Dental Technology, and Intelligent Imaging Engineering.
Teaching Development
The university attaches great importance to teaching reform, taking curriculum development as its foundation, whilst consistently incorporating faculty development into the core of its development plans and advancing it steadily. The university strengthens the development of disciplines and programmes,currently boasting 11 national-level first-class undergraduate programmes under the Ministry of Education’s “Double Ten Thousand Plan”, 2 provincial Class A distinctive high-level programmes, 2 provincial brand programme development sites, 1 provincial demonstration secondary college for transformative development, 2 provincial distinctive high-level programme clusters, 1 provincial distinctive specialised college construction project, 1 provincial “Outstanding Engineer Education and Training Programme 2.0” programme, and 2 provincial innovation and entrepreneurship reform pilot programmes. The university successfully passed the Ministry of Education’s accreditation for the Clinical Medicine programme in 2017 and for the Pharmacy programme in 2024.
Academic Staff
The university’s teaching staff is well-structured and highly qualified. All full-time lecturers hold doctoral or master’s degrees, demonstrate outstanding capabilities in teaching, clinical practice and research, and possess a strong sense of professional commitment. The main campus (excluding affiliated hospitals) currently employs 804 staff members, of whom 282 full-time lecturers hold intermediate or higher professional titles, and 242 hold doctoral degrees; the university boasts 162 high-level talents at the provincial level or above, including experts receiving special government allowances from the State Council.
Research Achievements
Since the start of the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the university has undertaken two National Major Science and Technology Special Projects, 14 National Natural Science Foundation projects and two National Social Science Foundation projects; it has received 15 provincial-level science and technology awards and been granted 133 national patents.The university has established three Jilin Provincial Distinctive High-Level Discipline (Cluster) Construction Projects and 36 provincial-level research platforms, including one Academician Workstation, one Jilin Provincial Key Laboratory, three Jilin Provincial Science and Technology Innovation Centres, and one Jilin Provincial Distinctive New-Type University Think Tank.
Affiliated Hospitals
The university operates one directly affiliated hospital and five non-directly affiliated hospitals, all of which are Grade III Class A general hospitals. The directly affiliated hospital is a Grade III Class A general hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, research, prevention, healthcare and rehabilitation; it is among the first batch of National Clinical Teaching and Training Demonstration Centres, a National Standardised Training Base for Resident Physicians, and a National Base for Nursing Science Popularisation Education.The hospital covers an area of 44,000 square metres, with a total floor area of 71,000 square metres dedicated to medical and teaching facilities. It has 800 beds and is equipped with over 240 units of large and medium-sized medical equipment.

The campus is shaded by lush greenery and boasts a pleasant environment, having been recognised as a “National Model Unit for Greening”. Student accommodation and the comprehensive student canteen provide students with high-quality, comfortable and convenient facilities for their studies and daily life. The picturesque Yixin Lake offers an ideal space for staff and students to study, relax and socialise.
